Why Wired Ethernet for iPad POS?
Wi-Fi is convenient but unreliable for business-critical point of sale. A single dropped connection during a transaction means lost revenue, frustrated customers, and queue backups. Wired gigabit ethernet delivers:
- Consistent sub-5ms latency — critical for payment processing and real-time inventory lookups
- Zero interference — no Wi-Fi channel congestion in dense retail environments
- Higher throughput — up to 900 Mbps vs. typical Wi-Fi in crowded retail spaces
- Always-on reliability — no reconnection delays, no DHCP timeouts, no dropped sessions
- Simplified IT management — static IP assignment, VLAN segmentation, and network monitoring all work natively

FAQ
Will these work with Square, Clover, or Toast POS?
Yes. The ethernet connection is presented to iOS as a standard network interface. Any iOS POS app — Square, Clover, Toast, Lightspeed, Shopify POS, and others — uses the wired connection automatically.
Can I connect an NFC reader for contactless payments?
Yes — with the C6-POEDOCK. The SuperSpeed USB-C port on the dock supports NFC readers and other USB peripherals natively supported by iOS.
Do I need a special PoE switch?
PoE+ models (C6-NETPOE, C6-POEDOCK) require a PoE+ (802.3at) switch or injector at 48V/30W. The charging station (C7-POEPWR-3) requires PoE++ (802.3bt). Standard 802.3af PoE switches are not sufficient. 24V injectors (common in Ubiquiti installations) are not compatible.
How reliable is the wired connection for POS transactions?
Extremely reliable. Unlike Wi-Fi, wired ethernet is not subject to interference, channel congestion, or signal dropouts — making it the preferred choice for payment processing and real-time inventory systems.
Can multiple devices share one PoE switch port?
No — each adapter requires its own PoE port. The C7-POEPWR-3 charging station uses one PoE++ port to charge up to 3 devices.
